Maureen discovered her passion for massage therapy “late” in life and began her career as a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2011. She trained at the Cortiva Institute School of Massage Therapy in Washington, where she was living after serving her country doing Search and Rescue and Personnel Administration for the United States Coast Guard. Maureen grew up in Clinton and knew when she left the military life that she soon wanted to return to Connecticut.
Following her departure from military life, Maureen attended college in Louisiana using her GI Bill and earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration where she worked in Human Resources for many years, traveling the country with her military family and living in nine different states over the last 35 years. Until she finally made her way home to Connecticut in July 2020.
As a massage therapist, Maureen loved the idea of the importance of human touch and how it connected people. She has two children who benefitted from massage for their special needs, and when she finally made the decision attend massage school, she knew immediately that it was where she belonged. Maureen is able to combine her love of medicine and teamwork from her time in service, and her amazing people skills, to give a client-centered massage based on each client’s individual needs. She believes in the body’s ability to heal itself, and is a firm believer in educating her clients on what their body is doing, and how to help them work on self-care to increase their feeling of all-around well-being and peacefulness. Whether you are looking for a relaxing, Swedish massage with energy work, or treatment massage for pain, she can do it all. She asks her clients what their goal is for that session, and using her medical massage training, tailors her massage to fit that client’s needs. Want to relax but work on those sore upper traps? Maureen can do a full-body Swedish massage with an upper body focus area. If the client is willing, she can work with the client doing stretches to increase range of motion in the specific area(s) of need. She wants everyone to leave her sessions feeling refreshed, educated, and relaxed.
Maureen has worked in some amazing Chiropractic offices as well as at day spas in Washington. She also owned her own massage practice where she honed her skills further in business but prefers being an employee – less stress! Her proudest moments were working as a cancer massage therapist at the Puyallup Good Samaritan Cancer Infusion Center and then working with Wounded Warriors in
an Interdisciplinary Pain Clinic at Madigan Army Medical Center at Joint Base Lewis McChord. She is passionate about helping people who are in pain, or people just need a break from the stress of daily life who want to relax and feel pampered. Maureen also adds being a massage Instructor to her resume; teaching Special Populations massage, Professional Ethics and Communications, Hydrotherapy, Clinical Massage and Charting at her Alma Mater, Cortiva, in Federal Way, WA. She is a Reiki Level II Practitioner, has continuing education in specific shoulder treatments, Hospice Massage, Trauma/PTSD massage, Childen and Adults with Special Needs, Amputees, and Manual Lymphatic Drainage.
In her spare time, Maureen loves the water – she enjoys spending time on the beach year-round. She is happy to be back on the East coast with friends and family. She is an avid reader, loves theater and movies, and can often be seen walking through Deep River visiting shops and stores. She lives in town with her two ragdoll cats, Roxie and Angus.
We are very excited to grow our team and welcome Maureen with open arms! She is extremely talented and passionate about what she does, book in today and see for yourself!
